Born in 1982 in Grimsby, Paul Robinson, known by his alias LUAP, is a versatile British artist who seamlessly blends adventure and art in his photography and paintings.
Drawing from a diverse range of mediums and techniques, LUAP fearlessly addresses topics such as mental health, climate change, and isolation. One of LUAP’s most iconic series centres around his larger-than-life Pink Bear, a candy-coloured teddy bear that accompanies him on his journeys, symbolising the spirit of discovery and exploration.
Although LUAP’s style hints at abstract expressionism, it defies rigid categorisation. His works burst with positive vitality, marrying the vivid hues of Pop Art with the gritty aesthetic of contemporary Urban Art. While delving into existential themes, LUAP infuses his creations with a modern sensibility that distinguishes his craft, both in composition and in the thought-provoking content. Notably, LUAP’s Pink Bear suit accompanies him on expeditions, scaling mountains, traversing cities, and venturing into remote locales around the world. This bear serves as a tool to juxtapose and create striking contrasts within various settings, existing in a realm between reality and fantasy, innocence and corruption, bridging the gap between the two with youthful exuberance.
