Tancredi di Carcaci

Tancredi’s practice explores representational symbols through ceramics and bronze, using an ancient visual language to reconfigure idolatry as a metaphor for the conflict of ideas and people.

One of the ancient myths most favored by painters and sculptors inspires his work: the tale of Cupid, Apollo, and Daphne. In the myth, Cupid plays the trickster, shooting arrows that cause Apollo to fall in love with Daphne, while she is disgusted by him.

In his work, Tancredi depicts Daphne at the moment she transforms into a tree to escape the advances of the god, as described in Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
